Free Mahjong Solitaire - Instructions

This version of mahjong has a relaxing view of the ocean as the introduction screen and peaceful music to go along with it. The rules of Marine Mahjong are similar to those of other mahjong tile games.

If you like this game, you might also enjoy the other free mahjong games on this site, such as Looney Tunes Mahjong, or Mahjong Chain.

HOW TO PLAY.  Click on pairs of identical tiles in the stack to delete them. All the tiles in this free mahjong solitaire game have a beachy theme.

You can only click on a tile if the tile is "unlocked". An unlocked tile is any tile that does not have a tile above it, and there is no tile to the left or right side of the tile.

In other words, the tile is locked if there is another tile on both the right and left side of the tile in question.

See the screen image immediately below for clarification on how the locked tiles rule works.

SPECIAL TILES. Two types of mahjong tiles in the game follow special rules. The 4 Seasons tiles, which represent Spring, Summer, Winter, and Fall, can be matched with each other regardless of season. For example, a Spring tile and a Winter tile would be considered a pair.

The other special case is the Clam Stones. These, too, can be removed as pairs regardless of which tile in the group it is.

CONTROLS. There are a couple of useful controls buttons in this free mahjong solitaire game that you can use to change in-game options. The first one, the PAUSE button, allows you to stop the game temporarily without losing your progress.

The second option is the Shuffle feature. If you get stuck and cannot find any more pairs of tiles to remove, click the SHUFFLE button. This scrambles the remaining mahjong tiles, hopefully opening up some new combinations that you can clear from the board.

Be warned, though, each time you use the Shuffle feature 200 points are removed from your score.

I'm not sure about this, but when I played this game it seemed that the number of points I received for removing a pair of tiles depended on how fast I found and removed the pair.

Perhaps that was my imagination but it would make sense. You have to focus much more intently to play mahjong quickly than when playing at a leisurely pace.

Mahjong tiles games and other board games like this ocean-themed free mahjong game are excellent brain games. If you play games like this frequently, you may find that your visual perception and concentration increase significantly.

Both those brain skills are, of course, extremely useful in everyday life.
