This matches puzzle is a fun mental challenge using matchsticks.
Remove matchsticks from the board to form the required number of squares.
To begin, click the Small, Medium, or Large link under the picture at left. This opens the game in a pop-up window.
After the game displays, click the Start button to begin. A matchsticks puzzle board appears, showing 24 match sticks laid out in a 3x3 grid.
Each time you play, there are 12 different matchstick challenges to complete for points.
In the lower left of the game screen is displayed the number of matches you need to remove from the board. Also displayed are the number of squares you need to form as a result.
To remove a match, simply click the match with the mouse. The challenge of this game is that you need to visualize in advance which matchsticks you need to remove.
TIP: The game asks you to leave a certain number of squares. But it appears to me these can just be squared shapes, not only literal squares.
For example, for one of the challenges in this matches game I had to remove 4 matches to form 5 squares. But the solution resulted in 4 exact squares (in the corners of the board), and a plus-shaped polygon with straight sides in the middle.
As you solve (or fail to solve) each matches puzzle, a green checkmark (or red x) appears in the 12-cell grid in the upper left. This is how the game keeps track of your successes.
There's also a timer on the left side of the game. If you're very skilled at match stick puzzles, you can use the timer to add an extra level of difficulty. Just give yourself a time limit, or try to beat your previous times.
Each time you play this game, it appears the matches challenges are different. I'm not sure whether they are generated randomly or whether there are a limited number of challenges that are shuffled each time.
