Chronotron is a challenging puzzle game with multiple levels. Your robot's time machine is broken. Use logic plus time travel to retrieve the missing parts!
To begin, click the Small, Medium, or Large link or PLAY GAME button under the picture at left. This opens the game in a pop-up window.
After the advertisement ends, click the green START button. This opens the Chronotron main menu screen.
This game includes 35 levels of challenging logic puzzles, grouped into five categories - Easy, Basic, Medium, Hard, and Impossible.
To solve each level, you need to use time travel and work together with past versions of yourself.
HOW TO PLAY. It may seem a bit confusing at first. Basically, each puzzle requires you to be in more than one place at the same time. This is possible because your time machine is stuck in "Loop" mode.
That means you need to solve each level in stages. To solve a level, you need to retrieve the time circuit that's positioned somewhere on the screen. But you won't be able to walk your robot right to it.
There are obstacles that you need to get around, go over, etc. But these require that you position multiple time-versions of your robot in the necessary places to hold doors open, lift elevators, etc.
So, before taking action on a level, study the level carefully. Determine where all the obstacles are, and how you'll need to negotiate them. Only then, send the first version of yourself to the first obstacle to perform whatever action is needed.
The following alert message appears when you first begin Chronotron:
DANGER! your TIME POD has sustained heavy damage! Most circuits have been disabled. You are currently locked in LOOP MODE. Luckily, you have landed in a time and place that is near one of your missing TIME CIRCUITS...
You are a time-traveling robot whose time machine has broken. The only function that still works is the "loop mode". This means you can loop through time but not go linearly forward or backward.
Looping means that every time you activate the time machine, you return to the same point in time. This works to your advantage in solving the levels. That's because each level contains multiple obstacles that you need to deactivate simultaneously.
The way you deactivate multiple obstacles at the same time is by placing different time-instances of yourself in the proper locations to defeat the obstacles. The following example shows how this works:
EXAMPLE. In Level 1, the time circuit that your Chronotron robot needs to retrieve is located at the top of a high cliff. There is an elevator you can use to get to the top of the cliff, but there is a problem. Due to the location of the elevator control (a floor button on the left side of the screen), you cannot activate the elevator and ride the elevator at the same time. That is, not without using time travel!
Use a Time Travel Loop to defeat multiple obstacles
To solve this level, first go to the floor button and stand on it for about 20 seconds. Then return to the time machine (pressing the Spacebar to activate it).
What happens next is that the time machine loops you back to the same time when you stood on the floor button originally. But this time, there are two instances of yourself (the original self from before, and the new self from after the "loop").
Your original self will go and stand on the floor button automatically (see image above). Immediately walk your second self (he's got a green arrow over his head) to stand on the elevator. As soon as your original self stands on the floor button, your new self is lifted to the top of the cliff. Walk him over to the time circuit, retrieve it, and return it to the time machine.
The other levels involve the same kind of thought process, only with more obstacles and complications for you to figure out. Most of the time you'll need to create more than two time-instances of your robot.
CHRONOTRON CONTROLS. Use the Up, Down, Right, and Left arrow keys to move your robot around. (Up arrow key to jump.) To activate the time machine, stand your robot next to it and press the Spacebar.
There is also a series of green control buttons along the bottom of the game. If you mess up the level, click the Reset button to start over.
If you just want to re-do an action, click the Rewind button. Click the Eject button to immediately exit the leve and return to the level selection screen.
Note: You must solve the levels of Chronotron in order. In other words, you must unlock each level before you can advance to the next level.
Chronotron, like most such puzzle games, trains concentration and logical reasoning. Since you need to hold several solutions in mind at the same time, especially at higher levels, this game also helps strengthen short-term memory.
