Treasure Quest
<< Back to Free Brain Games page

Treasure Quest proves that flashy graphics aren't needed to create a really cool game. This game is also known as "Adventures in Four Dimensions".

This is a text-based game that really stretches your ability to mentally visualize, remember, and concentrate. The object is to explore all the rooms in the dungeon and collect the treasure, in as few moves as possible. The problem is, you can't see the dungeon!

Instructions. Click the game once to activate it. Select the number of dimensions of the dungeon by clicking the "2", "3", or "4" radio button. The more dimensions, the more directions you can move within the dungeon.

If you want to restrict the dungeon to Euclidean geometry, click the "Euclidean space" check box. I don't really understand what that means, but here is the Princeton definition:

Euclidean space is a space in which Euclid's axioms and definitions apply; a metric space that is linear and finite-dimensional.

If anyone can explain that in plain English, please email me through the Contact Me link at left. I'll post your explanation on this page and give you the credit. (If you give me your name and city, I'll post it next to the explanation.)

Next, click the OK button to begin the game. A panel of boxes appears with the instructions "Visit all the rooms and return all the treasures to the entrance."

Click the directional buttons (Forward, West, South, and so on) to "move" into new rooms. Try and remember the dungeons maze so you can get out. With 100 rooms per maze, you might want to take notes on paper too!

Some rooms contain treasure. This treasure will be mentioned in the text box on the left side of the game as you enter a room. To collect the treasure, click the "Carry" button. Sometimes you can't pick up the treasure before first performing another action (such as vanquishing the Troll in the room).

There is also a "Way Out" button. However, clicking this has no result until you've played the game for awhile. Click the About button to read the interesting background history about the game.

I can see this game being really, really addictive for some people. What a great mental workout that's fun, too!
