Rubiks Cube
<< Back to Free Brain Games page

It's hard to beat the classic Rubiks Cube as a real brain-stretcher. This type of brain game builds memory (through remembering move combinations
that through experience seem to work), concentration,
strategic planning - and patience.

Instructions. Click the cube to activate it. Click the cube, hold down the left mouse button, and roll the mouse to move the cube. Twist or rotate by pointing and dragging in "natural" directions.

Press the "S" key to scramble and "R" to restore (while positioning the mouse cursor somewhere over the cube). Note that it's not possible to twist the middle segments.

Here's some history about Rubiks Cube from Wikipedia:

Rubik's Cube (commonly misspelled rubix, rubick's or rubics cube) is a mechanical puzzle invented in 1974 by the Hungarian sculptor and professor of architecture Ernő Rubik. Originally called the "Magic Cube" by its inventor, this puzzle was renamed "Rubik's Cube" by Ideal Toys in 1980.

The cube won the 1980 German "Game of the Year" (Spiel des Jahres) special award for Best Puzzle. It is said to be the world's best-selling toy, with some 900,000,000 Rubik's Cubes and imitations sold worldwide.

Typically, the faces of the cube are covered by 9 stickers in 6 solid colors; there is one color for each side of the cube. When the puzzle is solved, each face of the cube is a solid color.

The cube celebrated its twenty-fifth anniversary in 2005, when a special edition cube in a presentation box was released, featuring a sticker in the centre of the reflective face (which replaced the white face) with a "Rubik's Cube 1980-2005" logo.
