Remember what you study

I am in school right now and I am having trouble remembering what I study and what I even learned during classes. I listen and pay attention but for some reason I just cannot remember much of the lecture or what I have read.
Do you have any personal suggestions? I like the chewing gum I am going to try that. Thanks, Christopher
Doug's Reply: Are you taking notes during the lectures? Most instructors focus on the material they think is most important... and this is what gets included on the exam. I've had plenty of teachers who give away answers during the lecture. If you aren't taking good notes you will miss this.
This site has some information on good note-taking:

Second, are you using a study system? One of the classic systems is SQR3. This stands for Survey, Question, Read, Recite, Review. It is a way to approach reading material that helps you understand and remember it better.
There is a nice explanation of the SQR3 method here:

Try those two things first. I think they will make a big difference in how efficiently you learn and remember your schoolwork.
