Photographic memory?

by Joanne
(Canada)

Since I was a child, I had a photographic memory. When I became I concert pianist, it became even better. Is it important to work towards a photographic memory in anyone as well as other techniques?

Doug's Reply. If you have a photographic memory, then you are a rare exception and are very lucky.

Tell me about how you remember things. For example, when you read a book, do you remember every word on every page? Can you actually see an image of each page in your mind?

Most people, like me, tend to forget a lot. To remember something permanently, we need to be exposed to it multiple times and/or use memory techniques.

I am also intrigued by what you say about music. Lately I have been teaching myself piano. I have no musical talent whatsoever, but even though I am 41 I am giving it a try.

I am quite curious to see what effect this exposure to music and playing an instrument will have on my brain. Already it seems to have improved my concentration, especially right after each practice session.

Best regards,
Douglas
