Hare and Hounds - Free Brain Game

Hare and Hounds is a challenging puzzle game that trains concentration and logical reasoning. Help your hounds trap the hare! Move your hounds to block the hare from escaping.

To begin, click the Medium link under the picture at left. This opens the game in a pop-up window.

Use the "SCORE" section to keep track of how many times you beat the computer (or how many times it beats you).

Hare and Hounds Instructions

HOW TO PLAY. On each turn, move a single hound to a directly connected empty space (either a square or a hexagon.) The hounds can only be moved vertically or forward (to the right), not backward.

The computer will then move the hare one space. The hare can move in any direction.

To move a hound, click the hound to activate it. Then click the space you want the hound to move to.

There are no captures. The hounds win by trapping the hare so that he is unable to move.

The hare can win in two ways:

1) He can escape, which he does by moving past (to the left of) all three hounds.

2) If the hounds move 10 times in a row without advancing forward (i.e. you only move them up and down), then the hounds are "stalling" and the hare wins.

OPTIONS. You can play the role of either the hare or the hounds. To switch, click the PLAYER: Hare or PLAYER: Hounds link on the right side of the game.

You can control the difficulty of the game using the "LEVEL" links (Beginner, Intermediate, or Expert) on the right side of the game.

FOR BEST RESULTS: Hare and Hounds is a lot of fun, but it is limited. To really improve your brain, join the Lumosity brain training service. I use Lumosity every day, and it works.
