Concentration and memory problems

by Ayush Gupta
(Delhi, India)

I have concentration and memory problems. I cannot concentrate on one hand, and if I succeed in maintaining concentration, I cannot remember the thing I concentrated on. My mind wanders around stupid thoughts. What do you suggest?

Doug's Reply. Several factors can have a negative impact on concentration. For instance, excessive stress and insufficient sleep can both make it hard to focus during the day.

You may be able to improve your concentration and memory by forming brain-friendly habits and making lifestyle changes that help your mind operate at its best. Here are a few examples:

  • Mindfulness meditation

  • Brain training games

  • Regular aerobic exercise

  • Memory exercises

  • A healthy diet

  • Memory vitamins and supplements

Many of these are summarized on the Improve Your Concentration page of my website. Other pages, accessible from the left-hand navigation buttons on my site, discuss these in more detail.

Douglas
