Best memory training programme

I live in the UK and I've visited your brilliant website on many occasions, I love the brain training games and have found all the other advice on the website informative and enlightening. I visit the US every year on vacation, I simply love the country.
In fact, Douglas, I love the US so much that I fully intend to commit to memory as much information about the country as I possibly can. At present I know where all the states are on a map and also every state capital. The reason I am emailing you on this occasion is to seek your advice on the best memory training programme I can obtain.
Since I will be attempting to commit to memory so much information on the United States, then I would need to find the right resource for such a monumental undertaking. I respect and value your opinion, Douglas, and will be extremely grateful indeed for your help and assistance concerning this particular matter.
Many thanks
Doug's Reply: Almost everything I know about memorization techniques I learned from Harry Lorayne, one of the original modern-day authors to popularize memory improvement. Master the techniques in any of his books (they are not difficult), and you will be able to memorize as much about the U.S. as you like.
The book I recommend you start with is his classic, "The Memory Book":
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Memory-Book-Classic-Improving-School/dp/0345337581/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1247593640&sr=8-2
Read each chapter carefully, do the exercises, memorize the peg lists, etc., and you will quickly become a memory pro.
Best regards,
Douglas
